Twisted Mithral: Cart Combat by E. R. F. Jordan – a Dungeon Masters Guild Review

E. R. F. Jordan has put out a dizzying array of smaller supplements on the DMsGuild in a relatively short time, but the long-gestating Twisted Mithral: Cart Combat is on a whole other level! Featuring a beautiful and simple layout, this release marries D&D 5th edition’s clean mechanics with a Mad Max aesthetic to deliver a fantastic deep-dive into mounted and vehicular combat. Never overcomplicating the rules, Twisted Mithral is a great addition to your campaign, especially — but not strictly — if you want to feature chariot and arena combat.

Uncaged Volume I – Part One of a Dungeon Masters Guild Review

This review is coming in two parts because this book is worth taking time with! Part one covers all 14 of the Tier 1 adventures (character levels 1-4).

Unique among one-shot adventure collections in that Uncaged has a tightly unifying theme gloriously realized through adventure scenarios that often feature tough moral dilemmas, Uncaged Volume I is a triumph. It is beautifully laid out with several tools that make it incredibly easy to navigate it’s 26 adventures, many of which feature new monsters, magic items, and encounter maps. With the exception of maybe one or two missing references that might affect gameplay, the editing is incredibly consistent, making it a joy to read. If you’re looking for one-shots that are more than just dungeoncrawls, there might not be a better release out there.

Stranger Things Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set Review

This review originally appeared at dndloremaster.com and is reprinted here with permission.

The Stranger Things Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set takes the idea of the original D&D Starter Set (2014) and applies a pretty slick tie-in to the Stranger Things by including demogorgon minis and an “adventure by Mike Wheeler.” Unfortunately, a few of these conceits end up working against the set. While it still provides everything you need to jump into D&D, the adventure has a couple minor hiccups that compare poorly to the (admittedly exceptional) Lost Mine of Phandelver that anchored the original Starter Set.
