As part of the NO DICE: A Diceless Tabletop RPG Jam on itch.io, Matthew and I will be releasing a brand new, epic fantasy diceless RPG called Dragon’s Grave: Driven by Bids! This game will be powered by Matthew’s all new Bids roleplaying game system, which combines resource management (skill and luck points) with highly narrative character building and consequences for partial successes and failures. Players will have a huge hand in building components of the setting, and they will work closely with the GM to create very personal stakes for the epic stories the setting encourages.
Check out more of the game below!
The epic fantasy setting of Dragon’s Grave is huge-scale, and dark: two iconic dragons fought until they perished, and from their bones and viscera, living dungeons have formed. These terrifying catacombs can swallow entire cities, and spawn monsters that constantly mutate, threatening everyone! In this way, the game draws some inspirations from games like Midnight (the bad guys are everywhere!), Belly of the Beast (living dungeon environments), and Dungeon Crawl Classics (mutating, ever-changing monsters).
The gods walk the land as juggernauts formed by the dragons’ death, and the many folk of the world are also descended from them in a similar way. Elements of the Scarred Lands‘ Titanswar can propel the stories, and any character ancestry you might find in Dungeons & Dragons or Pathfinder (and anywhere else!) could be playable in Dragon’s Grave.
The players characters will be epically powerful. As you can see from the pregenerated characters below, they are driven by two tropes that combine ancestry, class, background, magical power, and other traits that wide-ranging. They often feature abilities, legendary relics, or other traits that are usually the purview of high-level characters in standard fantasy roleplaying games. As intended, characters will look like the third act of Final Fantasy games or similar series: they are immensely powerful, facing off against the minions of gods, or the gods themselves! Or worse yet, dangers spawned from the corpses of dragons.
The monsters and mutants of Dragon’s Grave are individually quite dangerous. A few samples of “typical” monsters (if there even is such a thing) appear immediately below, but as you can see by the following example, the same rules allow for antagonists that are almost unfathomably more powerful!
In the coming weeks, Dragon’s Grave: Driven by Bids will launch on itch.io, and soon thereafter be available on several platforms, including DriveThruRPG. Check out the back cover blurb and join us on this darkly epic journey!
