Cortex Con 2023
3-5 Nov • OnlineGamers everywhere are invited to join the world’s first online convention devoted to the Cortex tabletop RPG system, including Cortex Prime as well as other flavors such as Cortex Plus, Cortex Classic, and the recent free intro version, Cortex Lite! This fully virtual, fan-driven event runs November 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 2023!To get details, or if you have any questions or concerns, head to the official Cortex Discord and find the #cortex-con channel! If Discord isn’t the right option for you, you can also reach out via email using the “Email the Event Staff” link.
Players Wanted!
Our GMs seek players for these special online game sessions using any version of the Cortex system, whether that means a published RPG—such as Tales of Xadia, Marvel Heroic Roleplaying, Cortex Lite, Leverage, Smallville, Lifted, Firefly, Dragon Brigade, Reality Redacted, Supernatural, Battlestar Galactica, Keystone, Demon Hunters, Serenity, the various Cortex Spotlights and Confab games, and the settings in the Cortex Prime Game Handbook (Eidolon Alpha, Hammerheads, and Trace 2.0)—or their own personal builds or hacks!
To sign up as a player, simply use this Warhorn to add your name to the player list for any game you want. If you are not waitlisted, you have a space. If you are waitlisted, check back in on the Discord channel just before the game starts—if there is a no-show, the GM may give you that spot. Player sign-ups continue through the beginning of each event! GMs have priority when signing up to play games run by other GMs.
NOTE: In many cases, a 3-hour or 5-hour game is listed in what appears to be a 4-hour slot. The individual game listing is actually correct. A 3-hour game in such a slot just ends early, and when it is a 5-hour game, a time buffer is built in to make sure players still get a break before the next slot.
New Players Welcome!
New players are very welcome, since the best way to learn Cortex is by playing it!
A Safe and Inclusive Event
All participants (players, GMs, and organizers) are expected to share our goal of creating a fun, safe, and inclusive experience for everyone involved. By registering, you agree to the code of conduct below.
- Participants must behave in a manner conducive to the enjoyment and safety of others participating.
- Permitted age ranges can be specified for each game. In games with age levels lower than 18, participants must avoid excessively vulgar, sexual, or overly mature language and themes.
- No tolerance is given for aggressive behavior. Aggressive behavior includes any kind of threat or harassment, including hate speech or other mistreatment based on someone’s identity, and otherwise harassing, bullying, stalking, shaming, or intimidating other participants.
- All aspects of someone’s identity—including race, gender, color, size, sexual orientation, nationality, age, diverse needs, disability, neurodivergence, religion, or any other part of someone’s identity—must be treated with respectful tolerance at all times.
- All participants understand and affirm that running, playing in, or attending Cortex Con events does not make them an employee or staff of any kind of business entity affiliated with Cortex Con (especially since no such business entity exists) nor of any organization affiliated with the publication of tabletop games such as Cortex Prime.
- Participants also understand that Cortex Con is a grassroots fan event, organized on a strictly volunteer basis, and in no way endorsed by, sponsored by, or affiliated with Dire Wolf Digital or any other past or present publisher of tabletop games.
What To Do?
- Participants who feel as though they are in an unsafe environment should notify an organizer immediately.
- Participants who notice disruptive behavior should notify the GM or an organizer.
- The GM has the right to ask a disruptive player to leave the game and speak with an organizer.
- Organizers reserve the right to mediate, provide warnings, or remove a disruptive or aggressive player or GM from the game or server.
When playing online, we recommend changing your display name to not only include a character name, but also a real name, nickname, online handle, or other name that others can call you if they recognize you from prior events.
